Base Camp for Heartland House is almost finished!

This is what the garage used to look like, waaaay back at the beginning of this whole project on June 2, 2012.

This is what it looks like now:

Well, the yard is still overgrown. But the garage has improved!

The plan for this week and probably part of next weekend is to hang the new fascia board, hang gutters, and get the outside prepped for power washing. I think that also means I will be getting the water turned on and getting some kind of temporary garden hose hooked up for the power washer.

The reason the garage needs to be power washed is because the reclaimed siding is VERY dirty. It also has old paint clinging to it, which we’ve been scraping as we install. Dirt and flaky paint are a nightmare to try to paint over, and I want this paint job to last. My hope is the power washer will take off any loose and flaky paint, leaving behind only the paint that is firmly attached. It’s OK to paint over old paint, as long as it doesn’t flake off later.

Here’s a gallery of images of Base Camp, showing some of the recent progress. Enjoy!
